I had been an LPN for 12 years then went on to become an RN in 2006. All of my experience is in LTC. I worked my way up the ladder from floor nurse to ADON for 3 years and DON for 7 months. I am looking to do something from home or travel but every where that I apply requires 1 year hospital experience. I am frustrated because LTC work crosses alot areas. Can anyone help me. I am in Illinois

I am an RN with 25 plus years in Med/Surg Behaviorial Health. Due to my back and knees I can no longer lift. Therefore after 30 resumes and multiple interviews I am no longer employable ANYWHERE. I do not have my bachelorates so I cannot teach. I would do any job part time, weekends holidays that did not have a requirement of lifting. Contact me if you have any ideas. I live in CT (aplefka@sbcglobal.net)

The call center is located in Springfield, Missouri. If you would be willing to relocate and work in house for one year, the potential for triaging from home is great. From Helene, Kaiser Permanente - 6/2/07  Click here to reply
I am currently working as a Kaiser Call Center Advice Nurse. A pilot to try out working from home positions was recently veotoed by our union. The two reasons cited by the union for cancelling the program were: History of abuse by employers to employees working from home (Kaiser was not accused of this) and the nurses would be isolated. When requests were made to the union to elaborate no more information was given except that they had made their decison. Understandbly many nurses were not happy with this decison and continue to feel that the union is shirking its responsibility to find solutions. At this point I am looking for a way to encourage the union to put this opportunity back on the negotiating table. Telecommuncations is the way of the future and I feel that the union is holding us back from a wonderful opportunity. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am a RN in the Charleston West Virginia area, I am seeking some type of nursing employment that allows me to work from home. (Have a large farm and need to be available for farm emergencies) I have Home Health and OR experience and have triaged phone calls for home health over the past 3 years. I love talking to patients on the phone and find enjoyment in solving problems for patients that would otherwise "spin their wheels" in the wrong direction with regards to their health care. I would love to hear any ideas, suggestions, leads that any fellow RN's or otherwise, may have to suggest.

I work in an OB/GYN clinic. We use a telephone contact form for messages i,t is a permanent part of the record. Some nurses want a telephone log book for messages, then rewrite messages prn for the chart. I feel that all contacts are improtant, even if it only means one more phone number to contact the patient. I also feel strongly that you should have a patient chart whenever possible to call back a patient. Many nurses say, "if you haven't heard anything, then everything is ok". Management is not supportive.

Anyone interested in working from home as a Telephone Triage Nurse CAN do it, there are ways!!! I think it is a beautiful idea that can be beneficial for many reasons: 1. Decreased costs working in home: transportation, clothes, food. 2. Improved quality of life is reported for telecommuters. More time with family, greater comfort. 3. Improved productivity. Up to 43% has been reported!! I have been in business for just under 5 years. It HAS been a struggle at times but the benefits have always outweighed the disadvantages. I have started consulting to offer insight into how to make it work!! There are some variables to consider before starting up a service in your area. Email me at christie@pedicall.com.

i am a pediatric er nurse with nearly 6 years of experience in adult and pediatric er settings. i have become increasingly concerned about the lack of a good pediatric telephone triage system in the area where i live. i live in baton rouge, la and there is a very limited telephone triage system. in fact, the system seems to be more geared toward the adult population. i was wondering if anyone out there could give me some pointers on how i could go about starting up my own telephone triage system. it seems that every night i work, i get a parent that is concerned about what to do for there child's illness, but they just were not confident in the advice they received from the current telephone triage system set up at present. i really feel, that to better server our children in our community, we need a telephone triage system dedicated to just pediatrics. if anyone has any ideas on how to go about staarting this up, please let me know. i have no experience at all in the business field, so any and all info would be appreciated.

I'm a telephone triage RN in the midst of updating our adult protocols. We use Julia Briggs protocols, but I would like to compare these protocols to others. Does anyone have any ideas? Websearching has not yielded many easily accessible results. Are there any online protocols that anyone would recommend? Thanks! Nancy
